How to Answer: 10 Most Difficult Interview Questions

When you are going to give an interview for a medium to high-level jobs in Pakistan, then you always encounter some difficult interview questions. Hiring manager comes up with those questions to get an idea of how you deal with a conversation that makes you uncomfortable.

Q1. How do you handle Stress?

No matter if you work as an accountant or branch manager in a bank, you will have to encounter work stress. It is unavoidable.

Don’t say Stress makes you feel panicked or depressed. Be Positive.

Example Answer: In my last job as a project manager, I had to deal with a project. I had a timeline to meet. Unfortunately, two of my members couldn’t handle the task due to some medical reasons. It increased work-burden on the remaining 10 members. We had to work overtime to complete that task on time. After extending our work schedule, we completed the task on time.

Q2. Are you lucky?

It is one of the toughest interview questions for managers. Now the primary purpose of asking this question is to know what Kind of employee you are: Optimistic or Pessimistic.

Example Answer: I always think that I’ve been blessed in many different ways in my professional life. During the last 10 years, I worked on three different jobs as a manager. I worked for retail and wholesale portals. I gained enough work experience. Every job helped me bring improvement in my work behavior and also let me overcome some weaknesses.

Q3. How often do you receive critical feedback?

No one is perfect as an employee. It’s common to have some critical feedback from your managers and supervisors. Even you get them from your colleagues. A hiring manager is interested to know about your weaknesses.

Q4. Do you have any regrets?

It is one of those tough interview questions about which you have no idea what the right answer. You may not like to talk about your life regrets. No one wants to talk about the dark side or dark chapter.

You can think of some mistakes you made in your life. Explain to them a bit by describing what Kind of lessons you learned from it. If you have professional regret, you can talk about it. But make sure that you don’t mention a regret which can affect your ability to perform a job.

Example Answer : After completing my B.Com, I started working as an accountant in a private bank. After spending 9 months on this job, I realized I could do better. Therefore, I left that job and completed my MBA in marketing. Now I’ve been working as a marketing manager. I regret that I spent 9 months on a job that wasn’t right for me. A marketing job is far better than spending a full day with numbers. I’m happy I made that career shift at the right time.

Q5. Why are you leaving your current job?

It is among the most common interview questions and, no doubt, the most difficult one. Don’t give any false reason for leaving a job. If you do that, then this will cause a problem for you later.

A hiring manager must ask your former employee about the reason. If your reason differs from his reason, then your hiring manager will consider you a liar.

Q6. Tell me about a time when you had to overcome an obstacle

We all got some life issues, sometimes big other times small. No matter what was the nature of your obstacles, you can explain it in the answer.

Example Answer: As a retail manager, once I had to encounter a customer who was so angry at the store manager. He checked the online page where we mentioned deep discounts for the first 250 customers. He was saying that he was entitled to a 50-70 percent discount since he was an early bird. My store manager tried to calm him down, but the situation was becoming critical. It is when I interrupted in that matter. I took that customer to my office. Explained to him this situation. To cheer him up, I gave him a 25 percent discount on any item he liked to buy from our store. He wanted that solution.

Q7. Are you willing to fail?

Through this question, the interviewer wants to get an idea of how do you handle failure. Keep your answer natural. Don’t say, I don’t care about life failure, or I don’t face any life failures. Try to tell me how good you handle your life failures.

Example Answer: Failure is a part of life; no one can avoid it no matter how smart he is. I once had to do work that I couldn’t handle well. After failing on this project, I felt bad for some days. However, later I did my talent assessment. I brainstormed with my friends. It helped me pinpoint those areas of my skills that need improvement. I took an online course, and then I started working on a similar project. This time, I did it well. I learned from my failure and turned it into my strength.
